True smokey eyes

You may know that I love TheBalm. I mean, they are a good quality brand with cute, vintage-inspired packaging. And you should know I'm a sucker for packaging. So when they came out with this extremely cute - in a matchbox-themed package - Smoke Balm palette, it seemed like a great palette to take with me when I go travelling because it's so compact and has just three good looking shades I could use for a lot of different looks.

The palette includes a dark black/blue shade with glitters in it, a beautiful matte taupe and a off white, bone toned shimmery shade. When I first looked at these three shades I just thought they were perfect. You can go from natural to dramatic to very dramatic - read: black, glittery smokey eye.

Unfortunately, these eyeshadows are below the Nude Tude palette quality. It just doesn't deliver the same kind of butteryness lasting power. They are patchy, hard to blend and I feel like I have to work longer for results that just aren't sufficient in my eyes.

To make things even worse is the fact that the lightest, shimmery shade transfers like crazy. When I put this on my moving lid for a dramatic, everyday look, it doesn't take long before it's gone almost up to my browbone.

I'm so sad things between me and this palette didn't work out... But like every brand, TheBalm is doomed to have it's misses as well as it's hits...

  2. Aw, I'm sorry you weren't pleased with your palette! It's so cute, it's a shame the shadows aren't better :(

  3. I can see the chalkiness! :/ Very sad indeed, especially for a smokey eye, you want the shadows to be buttaaaa! No splotchy black eeeyes!
