Favourite Brushes

I'll admit, I've got quite the brush collection. Well, to some it may look like nothing, to some it may look like I've got a problem. But since I've got them, I thought I'd tell you guys about some of my current favourite brushes and what I mainly use them for. No, these aren't the only brushes I use when doing my makeup, but they're the ones I love using on a daily basis.

The contour/highlight master

A multitasker. Now I'm playing around with different brushes for my contour, but when in a hurry, I'll reach for this babe. It's a full brush that's rather compact and extremely soft. It's the Cheeck Brush by Real Techniques. This sadly was a limited edition brush, but if they ever bring it back in another limited edition set or their permanent collection I highly recommend you to pick it up.
More on the brush itself: it's an almost fail proof way of applying contour because you don't apply it in a thin line and blend it out, but you apply it already a bit blended. You'll end up with a very natural contour with this babe.
I also use it for my highlighter - after dusting of the contour shade ofcourse. It's just a great brush to take with you when traveling.
The eyes sorted out

Next up are two eye brushes I can't live without. Okay, maybe that's not true, but they're still the ones I can get sad about when they aren't clean and therefore not useable.
Let's start with the affordable one: the Essential Eye Shadow Brush by e.l.f. (only €1.50). It's the perfect brush to pack on colour on your eyelids. I reach for it every day - at least when I'm going for a more dramatic look and not a quick swipe of colour on my lids when in a hurry. It's a brush I think everyone could use.
The more expensive eyeshadow brush in my collection is the 217 Blending brush by M.A.C., a wonderful brush to - you guessed it - blend out your eyeshadow. But it's really a multitasker as well. When I'm in a hurry, I use this one to pack on the colour, blend it out and maybe blend a deeper shade in the crease. There are brushes that are like this one, but none of them have yet won my heart like this babe. Mainly because they are less... fluffy.
The undead face fighter

This brush I originally didn't really love. I just couldn't figure out the right way to use it. One day I decided to try it out with my bronzer and boom! I finally fell in love. It's the Duo Fiber Face Brush by Real Techniques - another one from that limited edition set, but you can still get this one in the Duo fiber collection.
This brush is perfect for a summer bronze. We all know that some bronzers are very potent and can be easily over applied. In order to not look like an oompa loompa, you might find yourself picking up the smallest amount of product and still swirl, tap and wave with your brush. At least if you're as pale as me. Or paler.
This brush doesn't pick up as much product so you don't have to perform that ritual. I even dare to swirl this brush in my bronzer without fear!

The undereye setter

This is one of my all time favourites. I've had this brush for a couple of years and it's still going strong - which I really admire for it's pricepoint (at €4.00). It's the Studio Small Tapered Brush by e.l.f.. I first used it as a contour brush - which really worked and gave a precise application - but when I got the Master from above, I started to use this brush to set my undereyes. It's a simple use for a simple brush, but it works wonders. It's also a very soft brush, so you don't have to be scared that it's too harsh for that sensitive area.

Now I'm interested. What are your favourite brushes? I'm always up for trying some new ones, especially when they're budget friendly!

  1. 217 is my ultimate eye brush - it's such a fab multi tasker! I also really like Vintage Collection brushes, don't know if you've ever tried them but there are about the same price as RT and soo soft :)

  2. I love that elf eye shadow brush! It is one of the first brushes I bought and I'm so, so happy with it! I also have a fluffy brush by a brand called Elle that I really like, though it took some getting used to!
