More mascara! Yep, you know I've got an addiction. Who am I kidding, that doesn't only apply to mascara, ofcourse. But I'm not here today to talk about my makeup problems, so let's move on. Today it's about a mascara that I picked because I think (I'm as good as 100% sure) that a friend of mine uses this and her lashes always look great. It's the Volum'Express Colossal Smoky mascara in Black by Maybelline.
Look at this big brush. Well, it's not as big as the Lycra Flex Mascara by Rimmel (review here), but still. It's pretty big. And kinda round. The bristles are close, but not too close next to each other, making it not too hard to comb and wiggle through your lashes. It's not as easy to apply to your lower lashes with a brush like this. It's easy to go too far down and smudge some mascara on your undereye area. It's nothing you can't fix, but it's still more practical if you can be a little more 'wild' during application.
Maybelline claims that this mascara provides a ton of volume, but as you can see in the picture above, that didn't really work out for me. Length? Check. Volume? Not so much. I liked how I cuild really build the length with each coat, but I advice you to concentrate on one eye when you're layering. I went for two coats on each eye and maybe one coat after that.
It does dry to this hard 'maybelline' finish, something I don't really care for, but not as stiff as the Volum'Express The Rocket. Lucky me, because I really didn't get along with that one. What I did like about this mascara, is that there was no flakiness detectable on top or bottom lashes. The lower lasher did tend to smudge a little. I almost never used it on my lower lashes though, they are long enough naturally. There are other mascaras I like using for them.
Bottom line? I don't really dislike this mascara, I just don'reach for it. Maybe if your lashes are naturally more voluminous than mine, this might look really good on you. Or maybe you're looking for a more natural, not too 'present' mascara? Then you might like this one as well. I know it looks bomb on that friend of mine, it just didn't work out for me.

It's too bad this one didn't work for you! It would be great to be recommended a mascara and have it work perfectly for you! The only drugstore mascara I've been using lately is actually Maybelline's The Rocket, so that doesn't help you much, haha! But I'm sure you've seen the hype about Maybelline's Lash Sensational, that's on my to-buy list!
