Some new glosses from the drugstore!

I've been noticing a sort of new trend finally hitting the drugstore. These days, it's all about that glossy, moisturised and pigmented 'liquid lipstick'. Glorified glosses, if you ask me. But I decided to try out two takes on this hyped up formula and picked up the Shine Appeal Fluid Lipstick by Catrice and the Liquid Lipstick by Essence. Now you may (or may not) know that I'm not the biggest fan of glosses, but I thought these moisturising formulas might be kinder to my parched out lips than my preferred mattes.

Top to bottom: Catrice (060) Marry berry - Catrice (110) Best Seller, Truth Teller - Essence (06) Make A Statement - Essence (02) Beauty Secret

Essence Liquid Lipstick

Look at these stunners. I picked up a nude, pinky shade (Beauty Secret) and a more vibrant pink/red shade (Make A Statement).
These liquid lipsticks are great, especially for their price! They are nicely pigmented, apply evenly on your lips and are indeed nicely moisturising, yet they don't slip right of your lips because of it. They have a slight sweet smell, but nothing too noticable when you're applying them.
The wear isn't great, but they - especially the more vibrant shade - leave a slight stain so that you don't have to reapply every five minutes.
One thing I don't really appreciate, but have learnt to live with is the fact that they are rather sticky. So yes, your hair does tend to get stuck on your lips on a windy day. But for it's price and all it's other features, I tend to forgive this little flaw.

Catrice Shine Appeal Liquid Lipstick

From these liquid lipsticks I also picked up a nude shade, but a little bit more one the peachy side (Best Sellet, Truth Teller), and a staple colour for fall - a berry shade (Marry Berry).
As you can see in the swatches above and these lip swatches, these glosses/liquid lipsticks are less pigmented and appear more watery than the Essence ones. Because of that, it's harder to get an even application and the finish will be a bit more sheer.
The wear is comparable to the other ones, again with a little bit of staining action. Their sweet scent is more present, but still not too obnoxious.
What I like more with these liquid lipsticks is the fact that they are - probably because of thei more 'watery' texture - less sticky.

(060) Marry Berry

These two formulas have their advantages and downfalls, but if I had to choose between one or the other, I'd go for the Liquid Lipsticks by Essence. They are even more affordable than the Catrice ones - with 1 ml difference in product - but their pigmentation is just so great and I personally think they make my lips look fuller and prettier.

Have you tried these two formulas before - or just one of them? Which one doe you prefer?

  1. These colours are so gorgeous, especially Truth Teller! It's hard to find Essence Cosmetics where I live but I'm going to look out for these now! X
